”Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.”- Hebrews 3:3
Just wanted to drop a real quick note on this ‘cause it’s just awesome! I heard this verse as we did dinner devotions tonight, and I loved it. Idk how I ever missed it before, but I suppose God always has a reason for keeping some things from exploding my mind till the right time. Recently, He has been teaching me allot about confidence in Him.
Side note. Ain’t it cool how when you need it most, God will bring everything together to teach you about it? I mean, you hear about it in the most unrelated ways, in the most opposite of places. Sermons, personal devos, family devos, someone just randomly mentioning something, or even conversations with random people you come across! It’s super sweet!
Back to the main point though. This verse relates to me because I have been realizing that confidence in Christ is way different than just confidence. Confidence in Christ is not just trust, though that’s a part of it. It’s just Christ! There is not much other way to describe it.
Confidence in Him is not just trusting He’ll provide, and it’s not just knowing that He’ll work everything out eventually. It’s more really just focus on Him completely and totally. It has nothing to do with you actually. Silly how the biggest things in life has nothing, yet everything to do with us. It’d be way confusing if we didn’t have the Holy Spirit to guide us, eh? Thankyou Lord for yet ANOTHER good and perfect gift. =)
Anyway, this verse is saying, you give Jesus honor over even the highest, most famous follower of God ever. And the simple reason is this. Would you give honor to a house rather than the builder? Think about it. Would you go see that new house down the street and say, “Oh my goodness house! You put yourself together so nicely! Look at the way you slope on that side to keep the rain off, and look how strong you are!”
Ridiculous! The builder put everything that is there in place, painstakingly, slowly. To glorify the house would be like praising a phone for connecting friends, or a book for being intelligent. How stupid, right? Haha. =) But Christ is the good builder. I have confidence in him because it has nothing to do with me or what I do from my side. It has everything to do with what He does. He has always made strong and lasting houses, and I trust Him to do the same with me. =) Not because of me or my past experience, but because of simply Him… But that’s what it always boils down to right? Simply Christ.
“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.” – Hebrews 3:4-6
